Our Wines

Today, we grow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & a tiny parcel of Pinot Gris at our Estate Vineyards along with a block of Riesling at our Tasting Room in Hood River, Oregon. We source additional quality grapes from our neighboring vineyards within the Columbia Gorge winegrowing region.

Phelps Creek’s plethora of variety truly ensures everyone can find something to love. Visit our store below for more.

Corduroy Pinot Noir Blanc

Burgundian Alexandrine Roy crafts this elegant expression of Pinot Noir exclusively from our estate vineyards. Gentle whole-cluster pressing, and sur lie French barrel fermentation, brings forth impressive texture and length of finish. It finds a perfect placement at tables of celebration, crafted with care in both the field and winery.

Reserve Wines

Artfully crafted cellar treasures. Savor the rich quality and attention to detail our boutique production allows. Each adorned with namesakes honoring those most near and dear to our Phelps Creek family, these three wines are truly something special.

Lynette Chardonnay

Combining lower and higher elevation fruit the “Lynette” expresses flesh from estate fruit and acid backbone from higher elevation grapes. An extended élevage in 33% new French Oak Puncheons develops mid-pallet texture, leading to a delightfully rich but balanced construction. Volcanic soils provide refined mineral notes. Meyer lemon, orange zest and a hint of cardamom segue into a seamless, lingering finish.

Regina Pinot Noir

Single Block

Our production pulls from vine blocks across our two estates to create this diverse collection of wines, each showcasing the unique microclimates and varietals of Phelps Creek. Rich in flavor and history, wines in this collection come from grapevines planted as early as 1981. The result is iconic vintages that are ever-fresh in expression and craftsmanship.

Beehive Pinot Noir

When we first began planting our Estate Vineyards in 1990, everybody advocated for cooler-climate Pinot Noir to be grown on south slopes as that direction gathered the most sunlight. Over time, as an industry, we learned instead that intensity in flavor and aroma comes from dropping a lot of fruit and lowering the yields of a vineyard. Planted in 2006, the upper portion of the pair is a more gentle slope - beginning almost flat. The flavor and aromatic profile is earthy and shines in cooler years.

In the mid 1990’s, we planted the Dijon 777 clone of Pinot Noir in a corner of the estate that at a time housed beekeeper boxes. As the vines matured, we noted the extraordinary character of the Dijon 777 clone in the cooler years. The result is beautifully integrated structure from the wood, melding into the natural dark cherry and currant tones of the wine. A smokey, pipe tobacco nose lasts throughout a lingering finish.

Upper East Slope Pinot Noir

Homestead Pinot Noir

In the 1860's our land was settled. Honoring the special site of the original cabin, we named the south sloped site the "Homestead" Block. Planted to Dijon 115 clone of Pinot Noir, the wine saw 100% whole cluster fermentation, followed by aging in older French oak barrels, aiming to minimize any intervention in a pure expression of the grape and the spirit of the hearty people who first worked the land.

Planted in 1981 by Rich Cushman, this old vine block is at an elevation of just 450 feet, apparently below the floor of the Missoula floods. Hence, lots of cobbles and underlying minerality. Almost searingly tart, despite a touch of residual sugar, this is an acid-lover’s Riesling, with a laser focus and thrilling electricity.

PC Pioneer Vineyards Riesling

The name “Passetoutgorge” is homage to our region with a tip of the hat towards Burgundy, and translates roughly to “throw it all in,” as components of white grapes can also end up in the mix. A wonderful 30% addition of Riesling adds weight to the combination. Delightful with Summer cuisine and especially shellfish.

“This is creamy and nutty, with stone fruit, mangoes and hints of walnuts on the nose. Medium-bodied, juicy and mouthwatering, with rich, almost tropical fruit character and hints of caramel at the end. Drink or hold.”

The tiny amount of Pinot Gris grown on our estate often tempts us into playfulness. One year, we let the grapes freeze on the vine for a true Ice Wine. In 2016, barrel fermentation in neutral French Oak enhanced the mouthfeel and texture, while still leaving delightful tones of green apple, melon and pear. This is now an annual offering we are pleased to share with you. Elegant and dry, the wine pairs beautifully with Pacific Northwest seafood.

“2015 Cuvée Alexandrine Pinot Noir: Once again this cuvée expresses exceptional elegance and finesse. There’s a floral top note that leads into a quite pretty palate, with plum, cherry and a touch of cocoa. Drink now through the mid-2020s.”
